One of the things you will find unique about Harp Dojo is our emphasis on traditional Okinawan weapons. Both the Aiki-Ju-Do and Isshin Ryu karate programs feature weapons that are regularly used once a student is at green belt level. This is practiced during kata and as a regular aspect of class.
Bo The bo staff is a traditional weapon that has many applications. Basic strikes and blocks are taught before a student begins practicing kata. The bo is a favorite among instructors and students.
Sai These were once farming tools that were adapted into defensive weapons. Students learn the proper way to handle them, as well as basic strikes and blocks. We also have three katas that feature the sai.
The tonfa are still used as a modern weapon today. Along with striking and blocking techniques, we also have a unique kata that features the tonfa.
Perhaps one of the most recognizable karate weapon, the nunchucku are also a part of our program. Students learn how to handle these weapons, along with striking and blocking combinations. We have specialty padded nunchucku for beginners.
All of our weapons can be used offensively and defensively together. Not only are they fun and challenging to use, they also teach coordination and body awareness. Both our adult and kids program teach weapons.
