Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.
The goal of this course is freedom. Freedom for women to pursue their daily activities without fear, armed with the basic principles of Self Defense: Avoidance, Deterrence and Techniques.
Avoidance covers how to be a bad target. The awareness and body language that makes a woman less likely to be targeted for attack.
Deterrence covers the skills that enable the student to discourage an attacker if she has been targeted.
The techniques we teach are designed to be simple and effective. We teach a variety of striking and kicking techniques, how to escape from grabs, chokes and pins, how to fall without being hurt (a very useful life skill in general), and how to defend oneself from the ground if one does fall or is pushed. After the first or second class, practice will include using techniques on our padded “attacker”.
The Self-Defense full program is a six to eight week course, depending on the number and age range of the students. For high school and college students we include information on date rape prevention and the personality traits of a potentially abusive partner.
We also offer seminars covering the most basic self-defense skills in a fast-paced, compressed format. Techniques are practiced both on practice mitts and on our padded “attacker”. A seminar requires a time space of an hour and a half.
Please contact us for information on scheduling a course or seminar for your group of 10 or more students.
